After all in theory someone could have a MacPro5,1 initially with say a Radeon HD 7950 Mac edition fitted, install Mojave, activate FileVault and then upgrade the video card to an RX 580 and thereby lock themselves out of their Mojave FileVault drive.

Support in Mac Pro MAY require some workarounds in the future, however the drivers are baked into the OS. It will be supported by 10.14 Mojave and likely further.

There is a possibility that even though these two (three) cards may in theory do everything required in terms of Metal and pre-boot EFI support Apple may have chosen to block Mojave APFS FileVault completely on the MacPro5,1 to play safe. What I have not personally tried is to use them with Mojave APFS FileVault drives. However the original cardboard box does say 'Mac Edition' see. It would be much harder to spot a real Nvidia GTX-680 Mac edition since it has the same black plastic cover as a PC edition. This is what the AMD Radeon HD 7950 Mac edition looks like - it has a white plastic cover as shown whereas PC editions have a red plastic cover. I can confirm that genuine Nvidia GTX-680 (Mac Edition) and AMD Radeon HD 7950 (Mac Edition) do support pre-boot access since both have Mac EFI firmware on them which is why they are called Mac Editions. I have not personally encountered the Nvidia K5000 so I neglected to mention that one. Not according to John from the link I posted… Of these video cards only the AMD Radeon HD 7950 (Mac Edition) and the Nvidia GTX-680 (Mac Edition) shipped with Mac firmware as standard meaning they are both Mojave compatible and able to show the pre-boot login screen.
